When the NSRC has to delete a ton of tweets about how Paxton is a total dirtbag, you know he's a low-quality candidate. Even if Talarico beats Paxton, I think it's almost bound to rebound back to the GOP in the next cycle. Paxton is just that bad of a candidate. It's amazing how shortsighted today's politicians are, but apparently the GOP is perfectly-happy to embrace the scummiest of the dirtbags, even if it means losing a key seat for a full cycle or more.
Texas MAY WELL have a Democratic Senator, come January. Abbott and Patrick have tepid Democratic opponents, so unless people do a world-class wake-up between now and November, the bleat will go on.
Gary, I recall meeting a little-known Democratic congressman from El Paso in 2018: Beto O’Rourke. He campaigned for the Senate seat held by Ted Cruz in all 254 counties in Texas and came within 2.6 points of defeating the incumbent. However, I think he squandered the momentum by running for president in 2020 instead of seeking the chairmanship of the Texas Democratic Party.
Yes the old "I can be President!" trap. I am hoping that, after seeing what Trump has done to the Presidency, any future candidate takes a lesson from George Washington and Dwight D. Eisenhower, and engages in a period of sober reflection, before making any decision to seek the nation's highest office.
Ken, you had me at your reference to "Legalize reason."
That says it all!
I really hope that Talarico has the votes to win over Paxton.
